Argentina Unveils $350K Golden Passport Scheme as Milei Opens Land to Foreign Buyers
In a bold bid to reverse historic FDI deficits, President Javier Milei’s administration has officially launched a Citizenship-by-Investment (CBI) program. The move allows foreign investors to secure Argentine citizenship for a $350,000 non-refundable contribution to the National Treasury or an $800,000 subscription to dedicated government bonds. Dependents can be included for $100,000 (adults) or $25,000 (minors under 18).
The announcement lands alongside a landmark Supreme Court ruling upholding Milei’s repeal of the 2011 Rural Land Law, which previously capped foreign ownership of agricultural land at 15%.
Argentina is attempting to bridge a stark investment gap compared to its regional peers.
Milei’s dual policy push—combining citizenship incentives with unrestricted land acquisition—aims to directly boost treasury reserves and rehabilitate Argentina’s fiscal standing.
The Economy Ministry emphasized that all applicants will undergo strict anti-money laundering (AML) and national security vetting to ensure full traceability of funds.
The Supreme Court dismissed a challenge by Falklands War veterans who argued the removal of rural land caps effectively puts "the Republic up for sale."
Congressional opponents and civic groups have organized nationwide protests for next week, aiming to challenge the land deregulation in Parliament.
